Chimsco moves to a new 2.6-hectare site

Chimsco

Chimsco’s progress is an entrepreneur’s dream come true: specialised in particular in frames and the construction of timber frame houses, the company is growing steadily. It has just moved to the former site of the Thiran construction firm: 26,000 square metres in the Achêne business park.

Family with entrepreneurship in their blood

Chimsco manager Xavier Michaux remembers when the company started up: his father bought a timber frame business in 2002. Three years later, Xavier joined the adventure: he left his position at L’Oréal to become the manager of the company. “At the time we had a staff of seven. I had a great deal to learn, in contact with people who had more experience. I think that’s one of my assets: the ease with which I interact with people, along with the entrepreneurial spirit as a driving force. That’s part of what I inherited from my family!”.

Growth spurt

In 2009, the company specialised in building timber frame houses. It bought first one and then a second building and, with the help of the BEP, several companies (in 2017 it won an award at the Alfers namurois – presented to acknowledge entrepreneurs in the Province of Namur – for the takeover of the company B-vitrées). It continued to grow, forcing it to spread to other sites in order to meet demand. Given the logistical complications, the sale of the Thiran site, not far from the head office in the Achêne business park, was an opportunity not to be missed. The BEP assisted Xavier Michaux by preparing the business plan and a financial plan for this takeover and putting him in contact with the investors and the banks. “We will be able to group our production sites and our 50 employees together in the same place. The large size of the site also means that we have room to plan for the future”, the manager explains.

Investing in people

As well as marketing innovative new products (such as the ‘Posi’ wooden and metal beam, for example), the group’s next developments will also concern the management and the involvement of staff: the BEP has set up working groups, including staff in the task of developing the vision and missions of the company. Moreover, the expansion and the investments should make it possible to enter into new commitments. This is a young company, but it has a fine future ahead of it. I hope, in the long term, to be able to pass on to my children this passion and the result of my work.”, Xavier Michaux concludes.
